Fan is a board-certified medical and surgical retina specialist who completed an ophthalmology residency, chief residency, and vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami, the top ranked eye hospital in the U.S. He has also trained in the field of inherited retinal diseases and gene therapy for rare eye conditions.
