Dr. Kenneth C. Fan is a board-certified medical and surgical retina specialist who completed an ophthalmology residency, chief residency, and vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami, the top ranked eye hospital in the U.S. He has also trained in the field of inherited retinal diseases and gene therapy for rare eye conditions and brings this expertise to Houston to help patients at Retina Consultants of Texas.
Dr. Fan is known to be a caring and knowledgeable doctor and surgeon who takes time with each patient while also delivering world-class medicine.

Dr. Fan’s practice covers all areas of medical and surgical retina including complex retinal detachment, ocular trauma, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, epiretinal membranes, and macular holes. He has a special, dedicated interest in inherited retinal diseases and retinal gene therapy.
Education and Training
Dr. Fan graduated with honors from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire with a degree in neuroscience. He subsequently obtained his joint M.D./M.B.A. dual-degree from Boston University School of Medicine and Business, graduating with high honors from both.
He underwent his residency training at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the number one ranked eye hospital in the U.S., and served as chief resident and co-director of ocular trauma. During this time, he completed a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. To pursue his interests in inherited retinal diseases, Dr. Fan also completed additional training in retinal gene therapy after completion of his fellowship.
Achievements & Awards:
Throughout his residency and fellowship, Dr. Fan authored and published over 40 scientific, peer-reviewed journal articles. As a resident, he was awarded the Heed Fellowship, and as a fellow, he was awarded the prestigious Ronald G. Michels Fellowship, the nation’s highest honor for a surgical retina fellow.Personal
Outside of his clinical duties, Dr. Fan enjoys spending time swimming and cooking with his wife and family.
