Dr. Ankoor R. Shah is a board-certified retina specialist with Retina Consultants of Texas. With a number of prestigious awards honored in his name in the area of ophthalmology, his surgical interests are in retinal detachments, macular holes, and scleral fixation of intraocular lens implants. Dr. Shah graduated with top honors and has undergone extensive training, allowing him to thoroughly diagnose and treat a number of retinal conditions.Dr. Shah has authored over 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers, book chapters, and presentations at national meetings. At Retina Consultants of Texas, Dr. Shah uses the latest advancements in technology to diagnose and treat a number of retinal diseases. He is skilled to treat macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, venous occlusive diseases, and pediatric vitreoretinopathies. He works with patients to repair conditions that cause vision loss such as retinal tears, retinal detachments, macular holes and puckers, and more. He spends equal time visiting with patients, advancing his surgical interests, and taking part in active research studies.
Education and Training
Dr. Shah graduated summa cum laude with a dual degree in healthcare management and biology from the Wharton School and the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, respectively. He earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he focused his research efforts on age-related macular degeneration and earned the opportunity to complete the prestigious Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship. He performed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania Scheie Eye Institute, where he was awarded the Medical Student Teaching Award for his dedication and excellence in teaching. He went on to complete an adult and pediatric surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at the renowned William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Over his career, Dr. Shah has received numerous prestigious honors, most notably the Rose Award, Dean’s Day Research Award, and Behrens Memorial Prize in Ophthalmology. Dr. Shah has authored over 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers, book chapters, and presentations at national meetings.
Dr. Shah is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
