Overview

Dr. Carson Petrash grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. Education and training has taken him to Colorado and Texas where he is a board-certified ophthalmologist with fellowship training in medical and surgical retina. He is inspired by the opportunity to improve vision for patients, and is particularly interested in complicated cases and integrating the latest treatments and techniques. In 2025, Dr. Petrash joined Retina Consultants of Texas, where he looks forward to helping our community with visual diseases and participating in clinical trials to develop new therapies for patients.
Skills and Specialties
Dr. Petrash is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in treatment of medical and surgical diseases of the retina, including macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments, diabetic retinopathy, and macular holes, scleral-fixated intraocular lenses, and iris prostheses. He is an active presenter at specialty meetings and publisher in peer-reviewed journals.Education and Training
Dr. Petrash earned a degree in engineering at the University of Colorado in Boulder, before working at the Fernandez-Vega Ophthalmologic Institute in Oviedo, Spain. He came to the University of Texas Health in San Antonio to achieve his medical degree. General surgery internship and ophthalmology residency were completed at the University of Colorado, where he also published research in stem cell retinal transplants with the CellSight laboratory. He returned to Texas to complete a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery with UT Health San Antonio. Now he’s here to stay, having fallen in love with San Antonio and a native South Texan.
He is fluent in Spanish.
