Dr. Hasenin Al-khersan is a board-certified medical and surgical retina specialist with the Retina Consultants of Texas. He completed his ophthalmology residency, vitreoretinal fellowship, and Chief Residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the #1 eye hospital in the country. Education and Training
Dr. Al-khersan received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan with highest distinction. He then graduated from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
Dr. Al-khersan completed his ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, which is recognized as the nation’s #1 eye hospital. He was subsequently selected as Chief Resident and Co-Director of the Ocular Trauma Service. During his training, Dr. Al-khersan was awarded a Heed Fellowship and a Ronald G. Michels Fellowship (the highest honor for a retina surgery fellow).
Skills and Specialties
Dr. Al-khersan’s practice covers all areas of medical and surgical retina including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, epiretinal membranes, and macular holes. He is also extensively trained in the surgical treatment of complex retinal detachments, diabetic tractional retinal detachments, ocular trauma, secondary intraocular lenses, and endophthalmitis.
Dr. Al-khersan is actively involved in clinical research. He has published over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles. He is particularly interested in the development of new treatments for diseases including diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration.
Personal
Outside of his clinical duties, Dr. Al-khersan is an avid traveler, having visited over 40 countries.
Dr. Al-khersan is fluent in Spanish and Arabic.
