Overview

Dr. Stacy V. Smith is a board-certified neuro-ophthalmologist and headache medicine specialist. She grew up in East Texas and completed ungraduated training at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. After graduating with honors, she returned to Texas for medical school at The University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Houston McGovern Medical School followed by neurology residency and neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital. During her training, she served as Chief Resident of Patient Safety and Quality Improvement and House Staff Council President. She also completed a headache medicine fellowship at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Prior to joining Retina Consultants of Texas, she practiced at Houston Methodist Neurosciences Center in The Woodlands for 8 years. Dr. Smith has published numerous articles and presented at national meetings. She has been a track-side neurology consultant for the NASCAR-AMR Motorsports Safety Team since 2017.
Dr. Smith’s passion is providing patient-centered care for complex vision and headache disorders. Her dual specialties allow her to provide comprehensive care for painful neuro-ophthalmological disorders such as Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension and Giant Cell Arteritis. She provides detailed evaluations to determine the underlying cause of visual pathway disorders and strives provide individualized pain-management for head, eye, and facial pain disorders.

Dr. Smith specializes in neuro-ophthalmology and headache medicine. Her interests include comprehensive management of idiopathic intracranial hypertension, giant cell arteritis, and migraine. She also specializes in optic nerve disorders, cranial nerve disorders, pupil abnormalities, visual disturbances, migraine-related visual disturbances, vestibular migraine, and post-concussion symptoms. She is skilled in clinical procedures including botulinum toxin injections, cranial nerve blocks, and sphenopalatine ganglion blocks. She is also interested in infusion protocols and neuromodulation for headache disorder management.Education and Training
Dr. Smith graduated from Vassar College with honors where she majored in Psychology. She completed additional undergraduate premedical education at Texas A&M University. She earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston McGovern Medical School, followed by neurology residency and neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital. She then completed a second fellowship in Headache Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.
